Weekending

Our weekend has been filled with fun!

Saturday Ree & I ran a few errands before coming home to bake pumpkin bread
She napped while I cleaned a little
Then we headed to my parents to drop her off on an "adventure". An overnight stay at Nana & Grumpy's. (She is big on going on adventures right now)

After we left there we headed out for a big night on the town. We went to Main Street in my hometown. We sat in the window seat of the local pizza place and people watched while we waited for our grinders to cook.

I love downtown in the quaint little village I grew up in. Seeing these pictures reminds me I want to introduce Ree to the Main Street's in our state.

After our meal we walked a few buildings up to enjoy homemade ice cream. I forgot to take a picture until they were finished! We then went to the local "mall" and walked around there for a bit, browsing in the science store; the bookstore; and the Hallmark store.

We then came home to watch: Aladdin. Oh yea we know how to have fun when the little one is at her grandparents!

It was odd to wake up today without knowing Ree would soon be up. It's a gloomy, rainy morning. A good one to curl up in my chair with my morning coffee and a book. I've also organized my craft room a little, planned out my next few knitting projects, and packed up a few boxes of things to donate to charity.

In a little bit we'll head down to reunite with Ree, go to Church at my home parish, then spend the afternoon there watching the Patriots HOPEFULLY win this week. After that it's up to my sister-in-laws for more football and a mini-birthday celebration.

All in all I'd say this is the perfect weekend!

Autumn

My favorite time of year is Autumn.
Heading into the first full weekend of the season I thought I'd list some of the reasons I love it so much!

:: The colors. I love the oranges and reds and yellows. Whether it's in the leaves on the trees or the ground; the mums that are popping up everywhere or in the stores.
:: The tastes & smells. Apple crisp; pumpkin pies & bread; the cinnamon apple candle I have.
:: Hot tea again!
:: Sweaters and jeans
:: Going to pick pumpkins and harvest festivals
:: Knitting without sweating while holding the yarn
:: The cool, crisp air
:: Comfort food dinners from the crock pot
:: Needing blankets at night while sleeping

And so much more!

Yarn Along

A few finished projects today!

My 8th Miranda Hat! I may cast on just one more since I think I can get it done before the end of September. That's the end of the knit along & then they will be heading to Evelyn.

I also finished the pinwheel blanket. The last rows took a long time! It's not very big but babies aren't very big at the beginning either. Plus I ran out of yarn!

For reading, I'm still reading Happier at Home. And tons of library books to Ree!

Weekending

This weekend brought:

The beginning of Autumn. My favorite time of year!
Yesterday morning began rainy & grey.
Ree & I got out all the Fall & Halloween decorations and made this place look like Autumn was here.
I just need to get a few mums & pumpkins for the front steps.
By mid-day the sun was out. A quick visit with my mom. Then a playdate for Ree.
Supper was a "clean out the fridge & find something". We all ate.
A late evening baking of brownies rounded out the day!

The first full of Autumn is here and it's beautiful!
Not much going on except relaxing.
Grocery shopping for me. I came home depressed (again. still.) with the prices of things.
This afternoon is naps & then off visiting. And maybe casting on a new hat. Or reading.
Tonight the Patriots play, late. Here's hoping I can stay awake!

Yarn Along

A few projects I've been working on this week:

A little mouse for my sister.

A green gnome as part of a rainbow gnome gift I'm working on for Ree

And still working on the pinwheel blanket.

My reading this week has been the two cookbooks The Art of Simple Food and Homemade Pantry. And Gretchen Rubin's new book Happier at Home just came in at the library for me.

Monday

Yesterday was a perfect Fall day.

Ree had the first storytime of the year & was excited to be back. We brought home a bag full of books. The first one we read when we got home was Color Dance. As soon as we finished reading it she needed to put on her dancing dress; some music; and get out her playsilks so she could dance like they do in the book.

I went to the garden and picked things to make a nice salad for lunch (which I forgot to take a picture of. I was too excited to be eating things that I had grown!)

We printed off leaf templates that we are in the process of coloring. I'm hoping to finish them today so I can cut them out & we can make a leaf garland.

A Fall smelling candle and a cup of tea for the afternoon.

These are my favorite days of the year! And seeing all the Fall "bucket list" posts has gotten me even more excited for these gorgeous days!

Weekending

The main word to describe this weekend was "relaxed"

Saturday we woke up and all stayed in our pajamas until mid afternoon
We read books
Ate
Took naps
Played with almost all Ree's toys
I started putting together the granny square sampler afghan
I found out that piecing together all different shaped granny squares is a pain in the you know where
After Ree's nap we headed to my mom's for my sister's birthday dinner

Sunday started very cold
It was wonderful!
Cuddles & knitting under blankets on the couch
Church
In the afternoon pumpkin spice coffee
knitting
football
I couldn't believe the outcome of the Patriots game
Right in the middle of my blogging time so that's why I didn't get a weekending post up yesterday
I think I liked it better when I didn't follow football. At least when they lose. And like that! Ouch.

Anniversary

Yesterday was our Anniversary & we had planned a few things. Except Ree came down with a cold. And our plans included her sleeping over at my parents. We figured it would be more fun for her & my parents if she slept over on a night when she was feeling 100%. Instead Ree had supper with them while we went out for fish n'chips & a (chilly!) walk along the beach. The food was delicious; the sunset gorgeous!

Because this was a spur of the moment thing & I wasn't sure what we would do last night, I had forgotten my camera at home. So these are all taken with my iphone. The last picture has the high speed ferry coming into port. I REALLY need to start carrying my camera with me no matter what I'm doing!

Yarn Along

I've been knitting up a storm lately. The change in the weather to cooler air has made me want to knit things! I finished up another Miranda Hat.

And last week we found out there's going to be a baby boy arriving in January in our extended family. So I cast on for a Pinwheel Baby Blanket.

I've also been reading quite a bit. I finished up the "Flight of Gemma Hardy" & after I read through the pile of library books I have out I want to start "Jane Eyre". But until then I'm reading A Life in Stitches which is very good! It's a mini autobiography about a woman who knits through the stages in her life. It's making me think about all the things I've knit up till now and who they've been for. A good read!

Enjoying

Here are just a few of the things that we have been enjoying lately:

Starting to learn the alphabet. We had "A" week last week. Ree made this stained glass window. She's always so excited to have me hang her things up!

Playing outside. The weather has finally turned cooler. It's now pleasant to spend time outside running, walking, playing, swinging and anything else the active 2 year old can come up with!

One of her favorite things: looking at the clouds

The late afternoon sun hitting the gladiolas. I always enjoy the changing of the seasons for the different light patterns that come into the house

The sunrise. I am not a morning person so this isn't a sight I usually see. But for some reason Ree has been up pretty much since 2 am today. It was pretty to see the sunrise. I hope this won't be an everyday occurrence though!

What are some things you are enjoying right now?

Weekending

We've been enjoying a full weekend!

A morning trip to the zoo yesterday. We spent our time at the new "Big Backyard" they built. A place for children of all ages to explore and learn. There are different stations throughout: tunnels with huge pieces of fabric; painting with water; a big puppet theater; a big xylophone; a huge treehouse with all kinds of things to explore. It's like a mini version of the local Children's Museum. Except it's outside.

Ree got a little upset when we left without looking at the animals. I promised her a trip back to see her precious flamingos & penguins this week. That didn't stop a temper tantrum though!

After coming home for naps and cleaning up we headed to my parents to celebrate my baby sister's birthday. Food; cake; presents; family; life doesn't get better then that!

Today's been our usual Sunday morning; Ree is now sleeping; I'm getting ready to knit and when she wakes up Ree will be surprised with a finished swing in her own backyard! If you can't find me this week I'll be out there pushing her for hours!

Yarn Along

This past weekend I finally finished a long time WIP. My rooster wash cloth. I also cast on and finished  the "My Hat of Choice" hat. I still have a Miranda Hat on the needles that would probably take me about 5 minutes to finish!

I also have been reading. A few weeks ago Karen wrote about "The Flight of Gemma Hardy" and I really meant to go request it from the library. Except I didn't do it RIGHT THEN and forgot about it. Last week while browsing the new books shelf at the library it was sitting right there! I picked it up and it's a good book. My favorite book of all time is Jane Eyre and this is a modern day version. It's really making me want to read Jane Eyre next!

Gladiolias

We planted a gladiola garden this year. I love these flowers! We were a bit surprised when they bloomed. The package was mismarked. We thought we were getting light purple; pink; white; and dark purple. I like the surprise!

I hope everyone in the United States has a good Labor Day. I'm sending special thoughts to those who are unemployed. We were there just over a year ago. I am very thankful my husband found another job in his field in a relatively short time!
