Yarn Along

I almost forgot today was Wednesday & yarn along day! I'm all messed up on my days this week!

I showed you my finished knits yesterday. Today I finished the owl hat. It was supposed to be for Ree but came out way too small. It'll go in my gift drawer. I also cast on the other night for a hat in bulky yarn. I wanted something that I didn't have to think about but my hands wanted to be busy. As I was beginning it I got the 3rd degree from Ree. "You know, I need pink mittens. And a pink scarf. How come that hat is green? I like pink."

I've also been reading just before bed. I'm in the middle (or near the end now) of Porch Lights. I'm really enjoying it.

Finished knits

In the past few weeks I've finished a couple pairs of socks. And Ree's pink hat.

I named the socks my Spring Socks and my Fall Socks. The colors remind me of the seasons. I was able to wear my Fall socks to Thanksgiving so that made me very happy! I've decided though that if I want to keep making socks with beautiful patterns I need to get some non-verigated yarns in order to show off those patterns. Doing all that work to just barely see the pattern defeats the purpose for me! So oh darn, I need to go buy more yarn!

Ree's pink hat is VERY pink! She loves it and wouldn't take it off the night I finished it. Since then I've taken it and hidden it as I think it's going to be a Winter Solstice gift along with matching mittens and a pink scarf. Of which I haven't begun to knit!

Tomorrow for Ginny's yarn along I'll show you my current work in progress. After that is finished I have plans to sew some things & embroider a little bit. Especially a few things that are needed this weekend!

Weekending Holiday Style!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! It seems I took a little holiday from blogging last week too!

Our holiday weekend started with Ree decorating cookies with her little friend & making a "pumpkin pie man" at her cousins library for story time.

Thanksgiving dawned bright & early with a trip to Church; watching some of the parade; preparing a few side dishes for dinner and then heading to my parents for the big feast. Ree placed a little bit of almost everything on her plate. Then didn't have a bite of any it!

The rest of us ate enough for her though. After dinner we all entered into a little food coma. Ree took a nap while the rest of us relaxed. She got up and helped my sister work on a puzzle. After some more pie we headed home.

Friday Ree & I decorated the house for Christmas. The tree will go up after December 4th....her 3rd birthday!

Yesterday I took a trip to Joann Fabric....WOW what a crowd! Then we did a little small business shopping. We went back to my parents for dinner for left overs.

Today is a regular Sunday. Church, coffee, cleaning up a bit. Heading off to visit the other side of the family later on. The week ahead is one full of birthday preparations as Ree's birthday party is next Sunday!

More regular blogging will take place this week. I have LOTS of knitting to show; that happened all weekend too but deserves it's own post (or two!).

Weekending

Our weekend was very full & productive!

Saturday Ree & her Daddy spent ALL DAY outside raking and mowing the lawn (him) and digging holes and picking up rocks (her).

I spent the time in the house doing laundry & cleaning. Then I went off for a few hours to the library and to do Christmas shopping.

Sunday morning found Ree sleeping so I sat in the sun streaming in the window knitting while my husband sat planning next years garden (!!!) and how he's going to make Ree's birthday easel (as I keep reminding him nicely that's only 2 weeks away!)

After that we went to Church; did a little more Christmas shopping (almost done!) came home to relax for a bit then headed to my sister-in-law's house for dinner and watching football. We saw the most beautiful sunset on our way there. Unfortunately I didn't have my camera and my phone wasn't capturing it the way I wanted to.

This week is all about Thanksgiving! And planning a 3 year old birthday party! Very exciting times ahead!

Some knitting

I missed the yarn along yesterday! With the week of sick & then the holiday on Monday with the husband home I got a little confused on what day it is! And then yesterday got busy & the evening was gone before I had a chance to post!

I finally picked my knitting up again on Sunday. After not having done it for almost a week I was ready! Now I have knitting ADD....I want to knit everything at once! I'm trying to finish up my Fall socks to wear them for Thanksgiving. And Ree keeps telling me that I haven't finished her pink hat. I also want to make myself a pair of fingerless gloves. And knit up ornaments for Christmas. Oh and finish the OTHER pair of socks I'm making.

Plus I have a list of sewing projects I want to work on too. And baking I want to make.

This is the time of year for all the making! First I should go into the craft room to tidy up and organize. Especially since I can't find the fabric I bought for Ree's pajama pants! I think the mess that is the craft room is the reason no sewing has taken place for so long. It's much easier to grab needles and yarn and go to where there isn't so much disorganization in the house!

As for reading....that's been happening off and on too. I'm reading Anne Lamott's Bird by Bird. I've also been reading bits and pieces of Mary Oliver's AThousand Mornings. Also a whole bunch of Fall and Owl books to Ree. Her new love is owls. Which isn't helping the knitting/sewing ADD because I went on pinterest and looked up tons of owl crafts I could make her!

We've also put a few books on Maps on hold at the library. That's her other new favorite thing. She loves to draw where we are going and how to get there. And have bridges on it. I need to look to see if I have any real maps laying around here somewhere for her.

So that's pretty much the catch up of my knitting and reading these past few days. Now it's onto catching up on my blog reading and commenting. I've missed "talking" to all of you!

Weekending

A VERY late weekending post!

Most of the weekend was spent with me still getting over the bug that I caught.
Ree spent all of Saturday at my parents.
I spent all of Saturday in bed or curled up under blankets on the couch.
But it helped because I woke up Sunday feeling better.

So much better that we managed to go to my sister-in-laws Sunday evening for our weekly get together.
Monday I woke up feeling MUCH better.
So much so that I couldn't stand my messy house anymore (a clear sign I was better).

So Monday was spent cleaning, doing laundry & even getting a little Christmas shopping done.
Ree spent the day outside with her daddy raking and getting the lawn ready for winter.
All without a coat or sweater on. The day was gorgeous!
They also made these cute little mice for me.

Now I'm hoping to get back in the swing of things with holiday planning, keeping a clean house, better meals, and craft time with Ree. I'm thinking that the bug I had SHOULD last me all winter as I haven't felt sick for over a week at a time in a LONG time.

November 8 & 9

My house isn't clean; there are dirty dishes & toys everywhere. But my child is happy. That is everything.

I've never been so happy to see the sun as I was today!

This past week has been rough. I've been fighting a sinus infection along with hives and swelling in my hands. The weather hasn't be great and Ree & I have spent almost every day this week in the house. I know I'm not feeling well because that hasn't bothered me. Poor Ree has so much energy she needs to get out!

Thankfully this weekend is supposed to be nice so we can get out in the backyard and she can run and play. She has been an angel all week long helping "take care of you Momma". I am ready now though to get back to being healthy and playing with my sweet girl!

November 7

Outside: Snow. Inside: poetry, tea, knitting & a sleeping little one.

Yarn Along

It's all about the pink today!

A pink flamingo washcloth to go in a certain little one's stocking.

And a ball of pink yarn that she picked out when we visited our LYS this weekend.

I need help with that. She wanted a sweater but they only had one skein. And she HAD to get this one. I looked for other pink yarn but they weren't "pink rose".

So this is what I got and I talked her into a hat. Pattern advice please?

The yarn is Manos del Uruguay Rittenhouse about 240 yards. Anyone have a good pattern for a little almost 3 year old(!!!!)

November 6

The day started with legos rainbows & ended with rainbow crayons. She had a blast at the "voting" like Momma & Daddy.

I'm grateful there is still Autumn color left after Hurricane Sandy!

Weekending

A full weekend!

Saturday morning was playing catch up on the laundry

enjoying their fire
sneezing some more

Sunday morning started E.A.R.L.Y.
a full blown head cold
cranky Momma

Ree's first trip to a real yarn store
I wish I'd taken a video
the squeals & the I "NEED THIS YARN" was precious
some "Momma make me a: hat, owl, sweater, socks, pants, skirt"
if it was up to her (and me too!) we would have bought some of it all
she loved the light pole decorated with yarn
now she wants me to do it to our light pole

Now it's nap time
and dishes
and cookie making
and visiting later
and an early bed!

After a week of grey skies & rain it was wonderful to see the sunrise again. Hard to believe it will be an hour earlier tomorrow.

Yesterday's picture was put on the habit blog today!

A burst of sun this afternoon was just what we needed. Time jumping in the leaves helped too.

November 1st

The end of the day is turning out a lot better then the beginning.

Last week Amy posted on Twitter that she had signed up for the Art Every Day Month Challenge. I immediately signed up too and have been thinking about what to do every day for November.

I knit pretty much every day; Ree & I do a craft almost every day; I've been sewing a little bit every day. But I wanted to do something a little different.

I've always enjoyed the blog habit. It's actually what made me decide I wanted to start a blog. I like the format of posting a picture from the day with 30 words or less.

This morning when I logged on habit had put up a post inviting all their readers to participate for the month of November in their flikr group. Then & there I decided that this would be my Art Every Day Month Challenge.

The only time I may post more then 30 words (aside from today!) will be on Wednesday's when I put up my yarn along post. And probably Sunday's when I put up my Weekending post.

I'm hoping this challenge will help me slow down in my days as I get ready to start preparing for the holiday's and Ree's birthday. I want to remember the joy in the normal everyday moments especially this time of year!

Halloween

We had such a fun Halloween! We like to celebrate ANYTHING in my family so we make everything a party!

It started on Saturday with trick or treating at the zoo with cousins then a family Halloween dinner/party and continued yesterday.

Ree woke up telling me it was Halloween and she needed to dress like Tinkerbell! Then she asked if I had made her fairy dust yet so she could fly. I'm still working on that!

But I did finish her costume! She and I are both so pleased with it!

All I did was make a shirt then a simple skirt. I cut out "leaves" and it was done! Except the darn fabric was so slippery it took me forever to finish it. And I pinking sheared the edges around the neckline and the leaves. But the fabric still frays. This isn't a costume that will last forever. But it came out awesome & did the trick!

Ree had a BLAST trick or treating last night around our neighborhood. But the best part to my husband and I was when she was handing out the candy at home. She would stand at the front door and knock yelling "COME TO MY HOUSE TO GET CANDY!" And every child that came got greeted with a candy bar and "Hi. What's your name? Do you want to come in? Do you want a drink? Do you want to play with my toys?"

A very good hostess!
