Yarn Along

Where did the first week of 2013 go?

I've been trying to limit my computer time & so far it's working pretty well. My incessant checking of social media has almost completely stopped except for a few check-in's a couple times during the day. Blog reading has slowed down too, although I've missed that & commenting so I'm planning on starting that again. I think I just needed a screen break. We've also had the tv off more then on during the day and that has helped Ree's imagination, mood, & our craft time!

We have been making plans for the New Year, cleaning out old papers, cleaning all the dust bunnies out of the house, organizing books, etc. All the things that come with a new year. And there's been some knitting!

My Toasty
I made myself a pair of Toasty. I knit them a little longer in the arms & hands so that they almost cover the tips of my fingers, yet I can still push them down if I need to.

Calorimetry
And this is Calorimetry. My hair is getting so long that when it is all bunched up under my hat, it pushes the hat up & off my ears. It's no fun to be outside trying to have fun in the snow with a hat that won't cover ears! Enter Calorimetry. This is like the "half-hat" that I used to have when I was little. It covers the top of the head & ears with a perfect opening for my ponytail/bun. My ears stay warm and I'm happy. Ree is too & has stopped yelling at me to wear my hat!

  1. I've scaled back the social media too. It felt good and right for me. (I still like the blog reading though so I'm not on a blog diet). Lovely mitts and I like that you made them longer. I made the calorimetry for my daughter but not for me! I might make that.

  4. I have done the same with screens, and I really prefer it. I do miss my online friends, but it is giving me more time in the "real" world. Love the calorimetry. I queued when I first saw it, but have yet to make it. Perhaps that is because I live where it doesn't snow!

  5. I love the yarn you used for your Toasty. I really need to use up my hand spun and make some more of those. I use them a lot at work. I'm enjoying less TV time myself these days.

  6. I haven't been on the computer much either, but mostly because I've been at work. The Calorimetry is super cute. If I decide to keep my hair longer I may just have to make one for playing outside!

  8. Sometimes, we just need to unplug where and when we can. I bet it's made you feel loads better just tuning out some of the noise! Love your toasties!

  10. Love the toasty. I'm going to check it out.
I don't watch any television during the day - just don't have time! : )
We usually watch a couple of hours in the evening though.

  11. Love Toasty and the colorway you used. I made one pair, but they have disappeared. I swear my kiddo may have borrowed them. I guess I need to make some new ones. I totally get it about the media and screens. It can all be too much! ;-)
